QCD meets heavy-ion experiments

The collisions of relativistic heavy ions allow one to explore the properties of QCD at finite temperature, energy and baryon density, and off-equilibrium. The wealth of experimental data from LHC an RHIC, as well as future facilities being planned, has provided fresh insight into the nature of the quark-gluon matter produced, and on its similarities and differences with other strongly correlated systems. The aim of the QCD meets heavy-ion experiments workshop is to gather experts from theory and experiment , to address what further insights QCD theory can provide in the analysis of the heavy ion experiments, and conversely, how the experimental data may favor, constrain and rule out various effective theories, thereby bringing them closer to capturing the dynamics of the underlying theory.

The timing of the workshop is ideal to evaluate the impact of the significant new results from RHIC and LHC presented at Quark Matter 2014 and further analyses since. As the LHC will begin runs at higher energies in 2015, it is timely to evaluate the outstanding open questions in confronting QCD with experiment.

The specific topics that wil be discussed include

  1. Lattice QCD and the QCD Phase Diagram,
  2. Quarkonia and Jets,
  3. Photons,
  4. Properties of the Initial State and dynamics off-equilibrium,
  5. Collectivity and transport properties of strongly interacting matter

The workshop will be organized to maximize discussions, with a few overview talks, short focused presentations, and round table type discussions of specific topics.
