Biology of Sphingolipids

Colloquium: Biology of Sphingolipids

Sphingolipids are constituents of cellular membranes in mammals. Synthesis and degradation have been characterized with regard to involved enzymes. There is a surprising lack of knowledge as to their in vivo function in physiologic and pathophysiologic states. The meeting of three groups from Bonn, Heidelberg and Munich shall try to focus on relevant potential in vivo functions of sphingolipids and new technologies to elucidate their in vivo effects.
