Frederick V and Elizabeth Stuart – the 400th Anniversary of a Wedding

On Valentine’s Day 1613 Frederick V, Elector Palatine, married the English Princess Elizabeth Stuart in London. This union attracted considerable attention all over Europe. On the occasion of the marriage’s 400th anniversary we are planning an international and interdisciplinary academic conference which will trace the political and cultural significance of the historical event. A central aspect is the use of the wedding festivities by the contemporary princes to express their self-image. The conference is part of a series of events to commemorate the marriage which has been granted the patronage of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
